Scoring System

There is none.  Numerical or alphabetical scores won't be given since they tend to detract from the point of writing a review.  Scoring an individual game makes no sense since the opinion on what a five-out-of-ten is can vary.  Is it a 'C'?  In school, a five-out-of-ten would be an 'F'.  A Metacritic score makes better sense in that it is derived from a set of written reviews based on whether they are generally positive or negative.  Scoring shouldn't be done with individual reviews.

Furthermore, there may be aspects to a game that are bad, but the rest is good.  The game may be too difficult on its highest setting, but enjoyable on its easiest.  Perhaps the story or voice-acting is terrible, but the combat system is amazing.  Giving a game an 'F' because it didn't pass an arbitrary hurdle that may not apply equally to all games seems rather capricious.

Lastly, there's personal taste.  Some people don't enjoy sports games while others dislike role-playing games (Japanese vs. Western is a whole 'nother can of worms).  I can't claim to be totally objective, but I'll try not to judge a game if I dislike its entire genre.  This is also why I picked this site's name, Myopic Gaming, because I'm not exactly far-sighted or objective.
